Bus

Madeira has an efficient public bus service in Funchal and to nearby destinations.

Taxi

Taxis are widely available at the airport, all major hotels and in Funchal, and are very reasonable (about 25 euros to Funchal).

Car Hire

Madeira has many new roads and driving is on the right hand side of the road. Seat belts are required and children under the age of twelve must sit in the back. The speed limit in towns and villages is 40-50km/h and 80km/h on the main roads. Since there are many narrow, winding roads and steep hills, special care and attention should be taken when touring the island.
